On a platform on top of the gallery entrance high above the floor, used safety deposit boxes are stacked into a defensive tower that looms large over the space. Embedded within the tower, surveillance cameras peer out, keeping an eye on all the exits. Reutilizing the discarded remnants of a dwindling physically based economic system to form a defensive structure; the tower becomes a metaphor for the ruthless inventiveness of those who practice an incredible agency over the lives of the majority of the world’s people through economic means. As attacks against the middle class and workers rights become more blatant and deliberate, inevitable reactions will put those powers at a defensive stance. While defensive, a tower is also a symbol of power; one must have significant resources in order to build one, and once built it commands great authority over an area. This tower is covering the exits both figuratively and literally.
