A repurposed bamboo box is used to house a homemade four-oscillator circuit.  This circuit allows for a multitude of expressive sounds that are shaped and twisted through the manipulation of three photo resistors and a black knob.  An embedded speaker allows for personal play, while a ¼” output provides external connectivity for routing through a mixer or effects unit.  Created as a demonstration for a Sound/Interactive Media class, this instrument is part of a process of enabling art students to access physical circuits, giving them the ability to exercise a level of personal agency over the electronic world that surrounds them.  Along with the physical act of creation, the class fosters a dialogue that encourages closer examination of the way that digital media influences our lives and shapes our realities in ways both passive and active.
